Visible Light Photocatalysis in Organic Synthesis

Abstract

Visible light is a perfect reagent for organic reactions: It provides energy to overcome activation barriers, enables endergonic steps and leaves no trace, even if applied in large excess. We discuss our efforts towards light driven cross-coupling and isomerization reactions, the activation of carbon-fluorine bonds and the use of carbon dioxide in organic synthesis. The reactions include one or more photons and electrons and are performed with homogeneous or heterogeneous photocatalysts.
