In recent years, our laboratory has been involved in the development of different synthetic strategies toward functionalized carbo- and heterocycles of various ring sizes capitalizing on transition metal-catalyzed reactions, pericyclic reactions and the reactivity of strained rings. Examples of these processes will be presented such as ring-opening/C–H insertion reactions from substituted cyclopropenylcarbinols and the synthesis of structurally diverse [n]paracyclophanes by sequential [4+2]-cycloaddition with an electron-deficient alkyne/retro‑Diels-Alder reaction.
